The developer behind Forspoken has been through many years of handling some of gaming's most recognized and beloved titles. Around this time, resources shifted to the demanding PlayStation 5 and PC game Forspoken and the studio moved forward. As a result, Final Fantasy XV's remaining DLC projects were abruptly halted, and the game remains unfinished to this day. After years of releasing follow-up content created on Square Enix's proprietary engine for F inal Fantasy XV, Tabata left the company to found his own studio. Following the release of Final Fantasy XV, the devs began operating under Hajime Tabata as COO. The other thing that it accomplished by starting to work on Final Fantasy XV was bringing in Hajime Tabata, the longtime overseer of Final Fantasy.ĭespite the unprecedented success of the group, all has not been well with the company. Square Enix's internal game engine was the basis of Final Fantasy XV and the purpose of founding Luminous Productions. Specifically, the team was tasked with creating the Luminous Engine. This allotted the group more resources, more time for development, and a stronger focus. Firstly, the group was entrusted with Final Fantasy XV and essentially evolved into Luminous Productions, moving from being a unit within Square Enix to a proper subsidiary. The success of Bravely Default resulted in two major developments for the developers. The 4 Heroes of Light was a runaway success, and the planned sequel turned into the Bravely Default series, which became the focus of Business Division 2 for the next half-decade. The dev then created Lord of Vermilion IV before finally being entrusted with Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light in 2009. Only released in Japan, the special celebratory game featured many milestones of voice acting for the studio.

The developer began as Square Enix's Business Division 2, and their first project was a crossover between Final Fantasy and Dragon Questentitled Itadaki Street: Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary. Final Fantasy XV, their premiere, rip-roaring title is, of course, part of the Final Fantasy series, one of the biggest brands in gaming and Square Enix's flagship.
